Founded in 1931 and located in Park Ridge, Ill., AANA is the professional organization for more than 36,000 Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) nationwide. Nurse anesthetists have been providing anesthesia care in the United States for more than 125 years. As advanced practice nurses, CRNAs administer approximately 27 million anesthetics in the United States each year. CRNAs practice in every setting where anesthesia is available, including traditional hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, physicians' offices and the Military, just to name a few. Additionally, CRNAs are the sole anesthesia providers in more than two-thirds of all rural hospitals.
