2004 Legislative Letters

November 12, 2004  letter from AHA to the Honorable Jim Sensenbrenner, Jr., chairman, House Judiciary Committee, U.S. House of Representatives and the Honorable John N. Hostettler, chairman, Immigration, Border Security and Claims Subcommittee, House Judiciary Committee, U.S. House of Representatives regarding reauthorization of the State 30/J-1 Visa Waiver Program.  In the letter AHA expresses strong support for S. 2302 which was passed by the U.S. Senate on October 11, 2004. 

November 3, 2004, letter from AHA to Members of Congress regarding the Fiscal Year 2005 appropriations measure for the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies (Labor/HHS).  The letter includes AHA’s appropriations request for rehabilitation hospitals, nursing workforce programs, access to health care, the maternal-child health block grant, information technology, as well as programs for rural health, i.e. Rural Hospital Flexibility Grants, Rural Outreach Grants, and Rural Health Policy Development.

April 8, 2004, letter from AHA to Senators Kent Conrad (D-ND) and Sam Brownback (R-KS) regarding S. 2302 which would reauthorize the Conrad State 30 program for five years.

April 28, 2004, letter from AHA to Representative Ralph Regula (R-OH) regarding funding for health care programs for FY 2005, including funding for the National Health Service Corps, Medicare Rural Hospital Flexibility Grant Program (FLEX), Rural Health Outreach and Network Development Programs, rural telehealth, and rural health policy development

April 28, 2004, letter from AHA, the National Association of Public Hospitals, and the National Rural Health Association requesting members of Congress to persuade HHS to modify its recently imposed criteria so that restrictions on needy communities in HPSAs are lifted and hospitals and hospital-based clinics can participate in the J-1 Visa Waiver program.

April 7, 2004, letter from AHA to Representative Jerry Moran (R-KS) regarding H.R. 4156, which would reauthorize the Conrad State 30 Program for five years. 

March 2, 2004, letter from AHA to Representative Jim Nussle (R-IA), chairman, House Budget Committee and Senator Don Nickles (R-OK), chairman, Senate Budget Committee urging that the House and Senate Budget Committees make funding for the Rural Hospital Flexibility Grant (FLEX) program and the Small Hospital Improvement Program (SHIP) a priority in the FY 2005 budget resolution.
