ARRA: Health IT Provisions FAQs, Timeline, and Medicaid Incentive Calculator

Since President Obama on February 17 signed into law the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act \(ARRA\), which provides approximately 9 billion in funding to help hospitals and physicians adopt health information technology \(HIT\), we have received numerous inquiries from AHA members about how and when the health IT funding will be made available. This advisory provides an overview of how the health IT provisions in the ARRA are likely to affect the development of IT standards, as well as hospital qualifications for IT funding incentives. Patient Credit Reports: What Hospitals Need to Know

This advisory provides an overview of Fair Credit Reporting Act \(FCRA\) and its applications. Hospitals commitment to caring includes helping a patient determine his or her options for financial assistance and improving the billing process. One of the tools some hospitals have considered using to assist them in assessing a patients eligibility for charity or other financial assistance is a consumer credit report. The Medicare Appeals Process

The AHA anticipates a significant increase in audit activity by contractors for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in 2009 and beyond as a result of the transition of the hospital review function from Quality Improvement Organizations to contracted fiscal intermediaries and Medicare administrative contractors, and the rollout of the permanent Medicare Recovery Audit Contractor \(RAC\) program. On February 17, President Obama signed into law the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 \(the Recovery Act\). The 87 billion legislation includes measures to preserve and improve health care, modernize infrastructure, enhance energy independence, expand educational opportunities, and provide tax relief.
