Covering the Uninsured
Let's Get America Covered!
CAMPAIGN ON UNINSURED KICKS OFF
The AHA has joined forces with a diverse group of 11 other major organizations to launch a national advertising campaign on the uninsured. Designed to educate policymakers and the public about the need to expand health care coverage in the U.S., the effort, named Covering the Uninsured: Let's Get America Covered, released a study indicating that an additional two million Americans lost their health insurance in 2001, the largest annual increase in nearly a decade. The most recent Census Bureau figures cite nearly 39 million Americans as being without health coverage in 2000. Since then, the nation has seen a slow economy, higher unemployment, and rising health care costs.
The $10 million advertising campaign is being funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
