2009 AHA Advocacy Issue Papers
In 2009, America's hospitals and the communities they serve will be challenged as never before. The nation's economic crisis has settled on the financial doorstep of communities across the country, changing forever the way citizens, organizations, businesses and governments think about the future. At the same time, the crisis is magnifying the need for America's health care system to be improved so that it can meet the demands of the future as well as those of today. More and more people are learning that illness, accidents and the results of aging pay no heed to declines in jobs and health care coverage.
In 2009, America's hospitals will work on many fronts to ensure that people get the health care they need, and that the health care system of the future meets the demands that an aging and increasing population will continue to place upon it.
To guide us, the AHA's 2009 advocacy efforts will focus on two fronts - the need for health reform and how to achieve it, and, equally important, the pressing day-to-day challenges hospitals confront.
