Iowa Hospital Association
The Iowa Hospital Association is spreading the "We Care, We Vote" message to hospitals across the state. Using a dedicated website and blog, the association is sharing information on what's at stake for Iowa hospitals in this election, state voter registration deadlines and mechanisms, and contact information for candidates for every congressional seat in the state.
"IHA chose to raise the bar this year and engage hospitals in the electoral process beyond the traditional involvement of the IHA PAC," said IHA President and CEO Kirk Norris. "Doing so helps
to enhance other advocacy activities, and getting members
involved now will pay off when it comes time post-election to
tackle the major challenges facing hospitals and health care across the nation."
IHA is prepping members on what to expect post-election as Congress returns to tackle end of year business, including the looming "fiscal cliff," by encouraging them to sign up for special alerts and e-mails.
The AHA launched We Care, We Vote this summer as a nationwide effort to get hospital executives, medical staff, employees and board members to express their concerns about cutting hospitals' Medicare and Medicaid payments, and to ask questions about where congressional candidates stand on these and other health care issues. The initiative includes materials for hospital leaders to help make their employees, trustees, medical staff, volunteers and others more aware of the challenges facing the hospital and health system field and what's at stake in the coming federal budget debate.
