Dear Member of Congress:
On behalf of institutions and physicians dedicated to patient care, we must voice our grave concern that Congress has not yet addressed new and impending Medicare and Medicaid cuts for America's hospitals and physicians.
Both doctors and hospitals are absorbing payment cuts -- and that situation will worsen unless Congress halts implementation of hospital and physician cuts in FY 2003. We believe Congress should provide additional Medicare funding to adequately compensate those who care for America's elderly, poor and disabled. Because physicians and hospitals rely on Medicare payments to help cover the costs of patient care, we urge Congress to take immediate action to help both doctors and hospitals.
Hospitals and physicians are inextricably linked in their commitment and their collaboration to ensure that Medicare beneficiaries receive the care they need and deserve. Keeping Medicare's promise to America's seniors and disabled means ensuring that those who take care of them have the resources to do the job. We look forward to working with you to maintain that commitment.
America's hospital and physician leaders call on Congress to act to protect Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries immediately upon convening the 108th Congress by passing substantial provider payment relief for both hospitals and physicians.
