Does the organization have a charity care policy? (Part I, line 1a)
DISCUSSION: Hospitals are expected to have a policy to provide free or discounted care to patients with financial need.
You can check "yes" for this question even if you call your policy something other than a "charity care policy" if you follow procedures to provide free or discounted care to patients with financial need. For example, it may be called a "financial assistance policy." A policy that only provides self-pay patients with a discount for prompt payment would not qualify as a charity care policy.
It is suggested that you have a separate, clearly indicated written policy for charity care.
