AHA Health Information Technology Advocacy – Meaningful Use

The AHA is very concerned that the aggressive and inflexible definition of “meaningful use” and the short transition times outlined in the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' proposed rule on electronic health records (EHR) will severely limit hospitals' ability to access the financial resources that Congress provided for EHR adoption. We fear that the ultimate impact could actually be the opposite of the goal of an e-enabled health care system, as those hospitals that are furthest behind may well be discouraged by the steep adoption curve.
