House and Senate negotiators agreed last night on a package of health care items that may be attached to tax legislation that includes prevention of a 2007 cut in Medicare physician payments. The House is expected to vote tonight, while the Senate may vote tonight or tomorrow. Learn More

With the Democrats controlling both the House and Senate for the first time in 12 years, a "lame-duck" session that is expected to start next week may result in congressional action on the physician fee "fix" or other health care issues before the end of the year. Learn More

With Sen. George Allen's (R-VA) concession to Democrat Jim Webb today in a very tight Virginia race, control of the Senate will be held by the Democrats by a 51-49 margin (two independents are expected to align with the Democrats). Learn More

For the first time in 12 years, the U.S. House will be under the control of Democrats. The Senates final makeup wont be determined until a tight Virginia race is decided, but Democrats picked up several seats there as well. The changes mean that when Congress reconvenes Nov. 14 for a lame-duck session, its only action may be a continuing resolution to fund the government until the new Congress takes control. Learn More
