President Bush's proposed fiscal year 2008 budget proposes major reductions to the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Released this morning, the budget includes more than $30 billion in Medicare cuts to hospital services alone, including cuts to the inpatient and outpatient updates, rehabilitation facilities and bad debt payments, among others. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) yesterday released the rate year (RY) 2008 proposed rule for the long-term care hospital (LTCH) prospective payment system (PPS).
