The Senate this morning, by a vote of 89-10, passed a two-month extension of the Social Security (SS) payroll tax holiday and emergency unemployment insurance (UI) benefits, along with a two-month extension of the current Medicare physician payment rates, thereby preventing a 27.4% cut to Medicare physician payments that was scheduled to take effect Jan. 1. HHS Intends to Delay Stage 2 for 'Meaningful Use' of EHRs

Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius today announced that the department intends to delay the proposed start of Stage 2 meaningful use requirements for the Medicare and Medicaid electronic health record incentive programs until fiscal year 2014 (October 1, 2013 for hospitals).
