Recently, the AHA alerted the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to hospital concerns that changes made last year to the 3M Grouper Software Coding and Reimbursement System have adversely impacted hospitals' ability to correctly identify the appropriate patient populations for their fourth quarter 2010 surgical quality measures for the Medicare hospital quality reporting program. AHA Special Bulletin: IRS Delays Filing of IRS Form 990 for Certain Tax-Exempt Hospitals and Issues Revised Schedule H

On Feb. 23, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) released a revised 2010 Schedule H with Instructions, and granted a three-month extension for filing IRS Form 990 to those "hospital organizations" that are required to file Schedule H before Aug. 15, 2011. This includes organizations with tax years beginning Jan. 1 through March 23, 2010. Filing organizations also are directed NOT to file BEFORE July 1, 2011. Learn More

The White House today released its budget proposal for fiscal year (FY) 2012. The proposal does not include major reductions to hospitals under Medicare or restructuring of the Medicare program. However, it does include significant Medicaid payment reductions to providers which are of great concern. Learn More
