STATEMENT ON S. 275, THE CHILDREN'S HEALTH INSURANCE PROGRAM REAUTHORIZATION
ACT OF 2009

Rick Pollack
Executive Vice President
American Hospital Association

January 29, 2009

Every child deserves a healthy start in life and legislation passed today by the U.S. Senate will help millions of uninsured children from low-income families get the health care coverage they need.

We’re pleased that the Senate has taken a major step towards strengthening the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP).  Today’s vote sends a strong message that preserving and expanding access to health care for children is one of our nation’s top priorities.

As the House and Senate bills move to conference, we look forward to working with Congress to make certain as many of our nation’s children as possible have access to health coverage.
