Great Boards website and newsletter promotes excellence
in the governance of hospitals and health systems

The American Hospital Association (AHA) and Bader & Associates announced today that Great Boards will now be published through the AHA's Center for Healthcare Governance.  This collaboration will enable Great Boards to significantly expand its outreach to new readers and to develop new content based on the combined capabilities of the AHA and Bader & Associates.

Founded in 2001, Great Boards website and newsletter reports on governance trends and effective practices and providing extensive resources for hospital and health system boards of trustees such as sample policies, practices and tools.

"Our strength and goal is to facilitate and promote best practices in health care governance," said John Combes, AHA senior vice president and president and chief operating officer of the Center for Healthcare Governance.  "Barry Bader and his firm have developed a respected and valued resource on governance issues, and we look forward to working with him to expand the offering to his subscribers and our members."

Barry S. Bader, president of Bader & Associates, will serve as an editor and contributor and continue to serve in an advisory role, bringing his 35 years of experience in governance to AHA as a senior consultant to the Center and as a member of the Center's National Board of Advisors.  Mary K. Totten, director of content development for the Center, will serve as the managing editor of Great Boards.

"I am excited about working with the Center for Healthcare Governance to offer current and future subscribers many new resources," said Bader.  "We share a vision for better board governance."

Great Boards will remain a free resource to the health care community.  In the coming months, subscribers and new members can expect some enhancements:

  • A redesigned Great Boards newsletter published quarterly, with in-depth articles and practical tools on emerging governance issues such as health disparities and strategic planning for the care systems of the future.
  • Resources to help boards implement best practices.
  • Trustee-targeted information about key delivery system transformation issues developed by the AHA.
