Keep the Care
Rich Umbdenstock, AHA President and CEO
Yesterday AHA members received a summary of the 10-year impact of some of the proposals to offset the cost of extending the Social Security tax holiday, unemployment insurance benefits and Medicare physician fix. Your representatives and senators need to understand that if we want to keep the care your hospital provides 24/7 to your neighbors, we cannot continue to pay for changes needed in American health care by cutting hospital funding. Hospitals are already facing huge cuts from the states and federal programs, along with an ever-growing regulatory burden. As your federal legislators decide over the next few weeks how to address expiring payroll tax cuts, unemployment insurance and Medicare physician payments, use the facts to remind them: We need your support - not further cutbacks that ignore our costs of caring for America's poor, elderly and disabled citizens. Whatever they do, they must keep the care.
