Carpe diem

Rich Umbdenstock, AHA President and CEO

The election is 24 short days away as I write this. Right now, while candidates are in active listening mode, seize the day. Make sure they understand how the decisions they make after the election will affect your hospital - and your community. Soon, your legislators will face the “fiscal cliff” - expiring provisions that include the payroll tax cut, the so-called “Bush-Obama tax cuts,” the Medicare physician payment fix and many expiring Medicare payment provisions important to hospitals, particularly small and rural hospitals. In addressing these problems, we need to make sure Congress doesn't impose still more arbitrary payment cuts to providers. There truly is no time like the present to make your voice heard - and by doing so, be an effective champion of health care for your community. Remember, “We Care, We Vote.”

Thanks,
Rich
