Intensifying the Drumbeat

Rich Umbdenstock, AHA President and CEO

As fiscal cliff and other end-of-year negotiations continue on the Hill, hospital leaders are engaging their federal legislators here in Washington and in their home districts with a unified message: We need real long-term solutions to strengthen our nation's health care system, not arbitrary cuts that undermine hospitals' ability to care. Again this week, more than a hundred hospital leaders converged on Capitol Hill for AHA Advocacy Day. Many more are making the case by letters, tweets, letters to the editor of local papers - you name it. And they are enlisting board members and the rest of the health care community in the effort to paint a vivid picture of the consequences of any further cuts. They are determined to grasp every opportunity to ensure that the patients and communities that rely on them continue to have timely access to essential health services. We need everyone beating the drum!
