Spring to It!

Rich Umbdenstock, AHA President and CEO

April brings some great health care celebrations and observances that give us a chance to draw attention to issues important not only to the public but also to our hospital families. It’s Donate Life Month, an opportunity to renew the call to for everyone to register as an organ and tissue donor. April 16 is National Healthcare Decisions Day (visit www.nationalhealthcaredecisionsday.org and AHA’s www.aha.org/putitinwriting), which seeks to have every hospital, community center, nursing home, newspaper, church and others help the public better understand end-of-life planning and advance directives. And April is also National Minority Health Month, which aims to strengthen the capacity of local communities to eliminate the disproportionate burden of premature death and preventable illness in minority populations through prevention, early detection, and control of disease complications. Don’t miss Equity of Care’s valuable video on the collection and use of race, ethnicity and language preference data and its important role in reducing health care disparities.

Thanks,
Rich
