Is Washington Working?

Rich Umbdenstock, AHA President and CEO

Media reports might have you thinking that Washington has closed up shop for the month of August. If only it were true! Some, like federal legislators, have deserted the heat and humidity of our nation’s capital in August to be with their constituents back home – and, we hope, to visit your hospitals and hear about your challenges. But federal agency personnel are at their desks – and our team has been filling your inbox with regulatory advisories and comment letters in response to page upon page of new regulations this summer. We’re also busy preparing for fall’s fiscal flashpoints and getting support for priority legislation. You can help influence the debate by joining us for two special advocacy days Sept. 17 and Oct. 29. I hope you can take some time to recharge this summer; we’ll need all our energy in the months ahead.
