Reducing Violence

Rich Umbdenstock, AHA President and CEO

Every hospital copes with the effects of violence, not only on patients and their families but on the entire community. Some hospitals have found in this sad reality some important opportunities to take innovative action. AHA’s Community Connections initiative has gathered examples of replicable hospital outreach programs and community partnerships that focus on violence prevention and reduction into a resource entitled Reducing Violence in Our Communities. Using interventions like peer-to-peer counseling and linking people to social resources and life-skills coaching can help break the cycle of violence that robs people of their future and communities of productive citizens. See what your colleagues are doing to prevent violence and its effects on their neighbors with this excellent resource.

Thanks,
Rich
