Home for the Holidays

Rich Umbdenstock, AHA President and CEO

Thanks to the men and women who staff America’s hospitals every hour of every day, millions of our neighbors will be home for the holidays again this year. They include four million babies whose families never doubted for a minute that their hospital would be ready for delivery when the babies were. During the year, many millions more arrived at hospital emergency rooms, received round-the-clock inpatient care or were treated as outpatients. Home, too, will be millions of people who received no care, who had no emergencies – because of the community-targeted efforts of their local hospital –efforts like nutrition and weight-management programs, mental health screenings, back-to-school immunizations and flu shot clinics, diabetes education, parenting support and wellness programs for seniors. (For examples of how hospitals in your state provide for and benefit their communities, see Community Connections. Happy holidays to the dedicated people of America’s hospitals.

Thanks,
Rich
