The Pace of Change

Rich Umbdenstock, AHA President and CEO

Hospitals face a huge array of change and challenges, from electronic health record and ICD-10 implementation, to new penalty programs and payment models, to new regulatory hurdles like the “two midnight” admission policy, and to rapid implementation of new Medicare outpatient rules and dealing with Recovery Audit Contractors. It would be helpful if Congress would support our efforts rather than adding uncertainty. AHA’s legislative priorities are all about protecting hospitals from further burdens and funding cuts. We’ll work for relief – from RACS, from the cumbersome two-midnight admission policy, and from DSH cuts – and to extend expiring programs that help rural hospitals. And while we want to see Medicare physician payments protected from large reductions at the end of the year, we will stress that relief can’t come through cutting funding for hospital services. We’ll strive, with your help, to keep the voice of hospitals loud and clear.

Thanks,
Rich
