Realizing the Promise of Coverage

Rich Umbdenstock, AHA President and CEO

Enrollment is about people, not politics. And it may require that hospitals collaborate in a competitive environment. Those were among important points made by two AHA members during a national webcast I hosted this week with Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. Cynthia Taueg, vice president of ambulatory and community health services at St. John Providence Health System in Warren, MI, part of Ascension Health, and Judy Rich, CEO of Tucson (AZ) Medical Center, shared the incredible work they are doing and stressed that while it’s important for hospitals to help as many people as possible enroll before March 31, this is a long-term effort -- because enrollment is the first step toward the promise of coverage. For a wealth of great tools to support your enrollment efforts, including a replay of the webcast, go to AHA’s “Get Enrolled” website.

Thanks,
Rich
