2014 Jump Start

Rich Umbdenstock, AHA President and CEO

Your AHA Board held its retreat this week to jump start the year’s agenda. Chair Jim Hinton led a vibrant program and discussion. We heard observations from payers, retail and public health, along with case studies from hospital colleagues on the front lines of community health and delivery system transformation. With hospital payments under continuing pressure and the fee-for-service system slowly but surely giving way to at-risk arrangements, the forces for change are unmistakable. The AHA will pursue an aggressive advocacy agenda while tapping our Regional Policy Boards and Constituency Section Governing Councils for advice on how to further support members in this critical period. We also heard that the AHA finished 2013 with excellent member retention and a favorable financial position. We are humbled to represent you and look forward to working together to attain the triple aim of improved health, an exceptional patient experience and lower per capita costs.

Thanks,
Rich
