Chasing Zero

Rich Umbdenstock, AHA President and CEO

We are immensely proud that more than 1,500 hospitals participating in AHA’s hospital engagement network (HEN) are making patients safer while saving precious health care dollars. We learned this week that these hospitals, led by our Health Research & Educational Trust and 31 state hospital associations, have provided better care for more than 69,000 patients – and have saved almost $202 million. The HENs are designed to identify and implement solutions to reduce hospital-acquired conditions such as infections, premature births and pressure ulcers, as well as readmissions. They are part of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ Partnership for Patients, which says that HENs have spared hundreds of thousands of patients from experiencing adverse events and saved billions of dollars. Congratulations to all HEN participants – and keep those reports coming. We’re still recruiting hospitals to participate; contact Charisse Coulombe to sign up.

Thanks,
Rich
