Can’t Miss Messaging

Rich Umbdenstock, AHA President and CEO

If you walk into either of the subway stations near the U.S. Capitol this month, you can’t miss the ads. Ads on the walls, on the posts, even on the floors share a message to Congress: “Stop Hospital Cuts.” With compelling images of people needing or receiving care, they pose provocative questions like, “Is this a good time to cut hospitals?” and “When will you feel the impact of hospital cuts?” And they come at a crucial time, as Congress looks for ways to pay for a physician payment fix. The ads are part of a larger campaign by the Coalition to Protect America’s Health Care (AHA’s a founding partner), which uses broadcast and print advertising as well as digital media to build public and congressional support for protecting patient care. The coalition’s online community has grown to more than 400,000 across email and social media platforms. Have you joined yet?
