Collaborating for Communities

Rich Umbdenstock, AHA President and CEO

Perennial problems like diabetes, pediatric asthma and obesity, heart attacks and risky behaviors exact a toll on every community’s prospects and pocketbook. The American Hospital Association each year recognizes hospital-led collaborative efforts that attack problems like these and improve community health with the NOVA Award. Read about this year’s recipients: FirstHealth of the Carolinas, which launched FirstReach to increase awareness, screening and treatment of diabetes; St. Catherine Hospital in Kansas, the force behind the Finney County Community Health Coalition, which brings together 50 community agencies to address a range of local challenges; Children’s Hospital Center for Pediatric Medicine in Greenville, S.C., whose Asthma Action Team helps kids and their families; New Ulm (Minn.) Medical Center’s HONU program to reduce heart attacks; and “Let’s Go!,” Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at the Maine Medical Center’s effort to improve fitness and fight obesity. These great organizations will receive their awards at the Health Forum-AHA Leadership Summit next month in San Diego.

Thanks,
Rich
