The Hero Next Door

Rich Umbdenstock, AHA President and CEO

In California this week, the staff of Mayers Memorial Hospital raced to safely evacuate 45 patients from its skilled nursing facility ahead of wildfires. In Atlanta, Emory University Hospital personnel used their skill and training to care for two patients suffering from the Ebola virus in its isolation unit. Staff at two New York hospitals each acted quickly to place patients who had traveled from West Africa in isolation until they could rule out Ebola. Hawaii hospitals prepared for two hurricanes, and hospitals in the Southeast and Midwest reviewed emergency preparedness procedures ahead of predicted severe storms. Being ready for wildly different emergencies is just one way hospital heroes protect their neighbors every day. Do you know someone who goes above and beyond for America’s hospitals? Read some inspiring stories about hospital heroes and submit the stories of your own hospital heroes to the Coalition to Protect America’s Health Care’s new Hospital Heroes page.
