Very Important Partners

Rich Umbdenstock, AHA President and CEO

As hospitals reach beyond their four walls into their communities, they need volunteers willing to reach right along with them. Engaged volunteers are critical to helping hospitals improve the overall health of the community – and so are the committed volunteer resources professionals who recruit, schedule, manage and encourage them. I was very pleased to attend the Association for Volunteer Resource Professionals’ 46th Annual Conference this week because I feel right at home with the people who are stewards of our valuable volunteers. Traditionally, we thought of volunteers working inside our hospitals, where they continue to make major contributions. But in the future, volunteers will also be critical in hospital efforts to keep people healthy and away from our doors – and our volunteer resource professionals will lead the way. Watch the Power of One – Volunteer Edition for a reminder of how much we rely on volunteers and their leaders..
