Pursuing Excellence in Health Care
Leadership, innovation and commitment to quality and safety—all are needed to deliver exceptional patient care. Each year, the AHA-McKesson Quest for Quality Prize recognizes hospitals that embody these attributes and are systematically committed to achieving the Institute of Medicine's six quality aims: safety, patient-centeredness, effectiveness, efficiency, timeliness and equity. The 2015 prize winner is Children's Hospital Colorado in Aurora, which has implemented Target Zero: Eliminating Preventable Harm, and actively involves parents and family members in safety and quality projects and strategic planning. The 2015 finalist, Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC, emphasizes collaboration with patients, families, and community members and organizations to ensure a seamless care continuum. Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, OH, and Schneck Medical Center in Seymour, IN, each received the Citation of Merit. All the award recipients provide replicable models and systems in health care.
