My four decades in health care have taught me there is no substitute for personal connections. Face-to-face conversations with colleagues, patients and caregivers keep us grounded and in touch with what is really going on.

As president and CEO of Atlantic Health System, I make it a priority to “round” in both our clinical and corporate environments. There’s nothing I enjoy more than meeting and talking with team members about what’s working, what we can do better, and what keeps them up at night.

Similar opportunities can be found by attending the AHA’s 2019 Annual Membership Meeting held April 7-10 in Washington, D.C. Our nation’s health care leaders will come together to share insights, discuss common challenges, and learn more about issues that affect us as caregivers and impact our communities.

This year’s theme is "Meeting Today's Challenges, Creating a Healthier Tomorrow,” and we’ve designed the meeting to help you do just that.

Through an invigorating mix of education sessions, high-profile speakers and networking opportunities, we’ll explore innovation and value, care in rural America, diversity and inclusion, post-acute care, drug pricing and more.

We’ll hear from congressional leaders, including Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Mo.; Reps. Richard Neal, D-Mass., Michael Burgess, R-Texas, and Donna Shalala, D-Fla.; as well as top officials from the Department of Health and Human Services – Eric Hargan and Adam Boehler – and make time to deliver our field’s key advocacy messages to lawmakers on Capitol Hill.

If you have not already registered for the meeting, please do so today. I look forward to seeing you in Washington, D.C.
