The AHA today requested to participate in a hearing the House Judiciary Committee will hold on consolidation in the health insurance industry. The committee announced last week that it will hold hearings on competition in the health care marketplace following the proposed acquisitions of Cigna by Anthem and Humana by Aetna. “Given their size and scope, our members are concerned about the impact of those proposed deals on patients, innovation in the hospital sector and other key aspects of health care delivery,” AHA Executive Vice President Rick Pollack wrote to leaders of the House Judiciary Committee. “AHA members are committed to building a continuum of care that benefits consumers’ needs, and we look forward to testifying before your committee as you examine these potential deals.”
