The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has partnered with the state of New York to test a new payment and integrated care model for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are enrolled in both Medicare and Medicaid. The agency said the demonstration will focus on long-term care needs and offer more opportunities for individuals to direct their own services, be involved in care planning and live as independently as possible. Part of CMS’s Financial Alignment Initiative, the voluntary program will use a capitated payment model and expects to enroll about 20,000 people in the downstate region, possibly beginning in April 2016.
