Reminder: CMS call Monday on implementing NOTICE Act requirements

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services will host a Town Hall teleconference Dec. 21 to solicit input from hospitals and other stakeholders as it works to prepare rulemaking that will implement requirements under the Notice of Observation Treatment and Implication for Care Eligibility Act. Enacted this summer, the law requires hospitals to provide Medicare beneficiaries with written notification and a related oral explanation at discharge or within 36 hours, whichever is sooner, if they receive more than 24 hours of outpatient observation services. To participate in the CMS call, from 2-3:30 p.m. ET, dial 800-837-1935 at least 15 minutes in advance. CMS notes that comments may be emailed to Notice_Act@cms.hhs.gov.
