Employment at the nation's hospitals rose by 0.47% in January to a seasonally adjusted 5,023,700 people, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. That's 23,700 more people than in December and 188,800 more than a year ago. Without the seasonal adjustment, which removes the effect of fluctuations due to seasonal events, hospitals employed 5,015,900 people in January – 6,700 more than in December and 188,500 more than a year ago. The nation's overall unemployment rate fell by 0.1 percentage point in January to 4.9%.
