The World Health Organization today reported an Ebola death in Liberia, which it called the third “flare-up” of the disease since the nation’s outbreak was declared over last May. Guinea also is responding to a new cluster of cases, the agency said. WHO this week declared that the West African Ebola epidemic no longer represents a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, but expects additional flare-ups due to virus persistence in some survivors. The agency said it has about 1,000 staff in the region who are ready to help with emergency response if needed.
