The AHA’s American Society for Health Care Engineering today presented its 2019 Excellence in Health Care Facility Management Award to Owensboro (Ky.) Health Regional Hospital for its dedication to achieving ENERGY STAR distinction. The hospital decreased its energy consumption by 21.5% over five years, investing the $1.7 million in savings back in the facility, through efforts such as updating all fluorescent lighting to LEDs and installing motion sensors to automatically power down spaces not in use. The award recognizes individuals or facility management departments that implement new or innovative programs or processes to optimize the physical environment and improve patient care. ASHE is an AHA professional membership group. For more on this and other ASHE award programs, visit www.ashe.org/awards.
