Survey: Premiums for employer-sponsored coverage up 4% in 2020
The average annual premium for employer-sponsored family health coverage rose 4% this year to $21,342, including employer and worker contributions, according to the latest annual survey of employer-sponsored health insurance by the Kaiser Family Foundation. The average annual premium for single coverage increased 4% to $7,470. In comparison, workers’ wages rose 3.4% and inflation rose 2.1% over the same period, the report notes. About 83% of covered workers have a general annual deductible for single coverage, which averaged $1,644, about the same as last year but 79% more than a decade ago. The annual survey also includes findings on health benefit offer rates, health plan market shares, and other features of employer-sponsored insurance.
