The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention today issued a Health Alert Network Health Advisory to inform clinicians and public health departments in the United States about two confirmed outbreaks of Marburg virus disease. The cases of MVD have been confirmed in Equatorial Guinea and Tanzania, though there currently is no evidence to suggest that these two outbreaks are related and instead are likely independent animal-to-human spillover events. The health advisory provides information about these outbreaks, while summarizing CDC’s recommendations for case identification, testing and clinical laboratory biosafety considerations in the U.S.
