The Joint Commission and National Quality Forum yesterday presented 2018 John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Awards to a health system, network of children’s hospitals, and physician at the NQF annual conference in Washington, D.C. LifePoint Health’s National Quality Program received the local innovation award for its system-wide learning laboratory to improve the safety culture in its hospitals. Children’s Hospitals’ Solutions for Patient Safety, a network of more than 130 children’s hospitals in the U.S. and Canada, received the national innovation award for its focus on advancing a culture of safety. Thomas Gallagher, M.D., associate chair in the Department of Medicine and professor of medicine, bioethics and humanities at the University of Washington School of Medicine, received the individual achievement award for his work to improve transparency in disclosure of medical injury to patients. Their achievements will be featured in the July issue of The Joint Commission Journal on Quality and Patient Safety.
