Reps. Mike Kelly (R-PA), Ron Kind (D-WI), Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) and Ami Bera (D-CA) yesterday launched the Health Care Innovation Caucus, which will work to advance a legislative agenda that encourages innovative policy ideas to improve quality of care and lower costs for consumers. They said the caucus will focus on exploring and advancing successful, innovative payment models and technologies to support those models. In a statement applauding the announcement, AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack said, “America’s hospitals and health systems are leading the path to transform health care in new ways that improves health and reduces costs. Our members are adopting new payment and delivery models such as Accountable Care Organizations and bundled payments. They are using new tools – such as predictive analytics and artificial intelligence – to better inform care decisions. Additionally, hospitals and health systems are at the forefront of researching innovative treatment options and therapies targeted to individual patients based on their unique needs. For health care leaders, it is more important than ever to test new approaches and to experiment with using technology in innovative ways that reduces costs and improves care and outcomes. We look forward to working with this newly created bipartisan group to share new ideas and to accelerate the progress hospitals have already made to improve health and health care in America.”
