HHS issues proposed rule on equal treatment of faith-based organizations
The Department of Health and Human Services today issued a proposed rule intended to clarify the rights and obligations of faith-based organizations participating in HHS programs, and HHS guidance for financial assistance with regard to faith-based organizations. The rule also would eliminate certain requirements for faith-based organizations that HHS said no longer reflect executive branch guidance or Supreme Court precedent. The agency said the rule implements an executive order issue by President Trump last May. HHS will accept comments on the proposed rule for 30 days after its publication in tomorrow’s Federal Register.
