WHO: Ebola activity in Congo doesn’t constitute global health emergency
The World Health Organization said today that the latest outbreak of Ebola virus disease in the Democratic Republic of the Congo does not constitute a global health emergency at this time, saying it does not pose a serious threat of spreading. As of Oct. 15, 216 Ebola cases were reported and 139 deaths have occurred. WHO said the outbreak poses several challenges, including that it is taking place in an active conflict zone amidst prolonged humanitarian crises. The organization said it would continue its efforts with other partners to defeat the outbreak.
