The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has released software for calculating Medicare payments for inpatient care in fiscal year 2016 using ICD-10 codes. The Medicare Severity-Diagnosis Related Groups Grouper and Medicare Code Editor software can be purchased through the National Technical Information Service. In addition, CMS released a version of the software that allows hospitals to conduct analyses using both ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes. Health care claims must include ICD-10 codes for medical diagnoses and inpatient hospital procedures beginning Oct. 1. For more on the transition to ICD-10, visit www.aha.org or www.cms.gov.
