HHS partners with AHA and others to help Black Americans enroll in coverage

As part of the Black American Week of Action April 25 to May 1, the Department of Health and Human Services has partnered with the AHA and other national organizations to inform Black Americans through social media about the special enrollment period available through Aug. 15 at the federally-facilitated health insurance marketplace. 

Black Americans represent roughly 13% of the U.S. population but 16% of the uninsured. The American Rescue Plan Act made more people eligible for marketplace subsidies and increased the amount of the subsidies. HHS estimates two-thirds of Black uninsured adults may have access to a zero-premium plan and 76% to a low-premium plan under the Act.
