More than 2.4 million people selected a 2022 health plan through the federal Marketplace platform Nov. 1-20, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced last week. More than eight in 10 enrollees were renewing coverage and the rest were new consumers. The American Rescue Plan Act provides enhanced financial assistance, which can reduce premiums for new and returning customers.

Thirty-three states are using the federal platform for 2022 open enrollment, which runs through Jan. 15. Consumers generally need to choose a plan by Dec. 15 for coverage to start Jan. 1. CMS plans to update the estimates weekly during the open enrollment period. Three states (Kentucky, Maine and New Mexico) transitioned to state-based Marketplaces for 2022 open enrollment, a factor year-over-year enrollment comparisons should consider, CMS said.

AHA is participating in CMS’ Champions for Coverage program, which offers outreach and educational resources for hospitals and other enrollment partners.
