The Department of Agriculture Oct. 30 announced the first detection of H5N1 bird flu in a pig. The positive case was found on a farm in Oregon containing a mix of poultry and livestock. All the animals shared water sources, housing and equipment, USDA said. The infected pig displayed no symptoms of the virus. The agency said tests have not identified any changes to the virus to suggest that it is more transmissible to humans and indicates that public risk remains low.
