HRSA seeks comments on recommendation adding two conditions to state newborn screening list
The Health Resources and Services Administration is requesting public comments on its recommendation to add metachromatic leukodystrophy and Duchenne muscular dystrophy to the Recommended Uniform Screening Panel. The RUSP is a list of disorders that the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services recommends for states to screen as part of their state universal newborn screening programs. HRSA said it is seeking comments that address the potential benefit of early screening for the conditions within the newborn period, the ability of state newborn screening programs to screen for them and the availability of effective treatments. Comments are due by Sept. 15.
