Hospitals add 16,500 jobs in May

Employment at the nation's hospitals rose by 0.33% in May to a seasonally adjusted 5,077,700 people, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. That's 16,500 more people than in April and 192,100 more than a year ago. Without the seasonal adjustment, which removes the effect of fluctuations due to seasonal events, hospitals employed 5,067,300 people in May – 16,200 more than in April and 189,800 more than a year ago. The nation's overall unemployment rate declined by 0.3 percentage point in May to 4.7%.
